First of all, Happy New Year! I find it interesting that today’s day is 1-1-11, but that’s just the geek in me. Hope everyone is finding themselves safe and happy as 2011 begins. More on resolutions, goals and the like to come.
Funny tidbit for the day. Last night the boys vowed to stay up til midnight to usher in the new year. They of course fell asleep in the car on the way home from dinner after a busy day with my mother but that didn’t complete deter their effort. But finally, after they became quite comfy in our bed watching TV, they agree that I would simply wake them up just before midnight so they could “see the ball drop”.
So, with about 3 minutes to go til midnight and with Dick Clark/Ryan Seacrest on TV, I woke up my oldest and asked him if he wanted to see the ball drop. He woke up more than I anticipated, said yes and proceeded to the bedroom window. He stared searching the sky for, yes, you guessed it, the ball that was going to drop. Guess we hadn’t really gone into much detail of the whole Times Square traditions.
When I told him that it was on TV, that there wasn’t a ball dropping in the front yard, he responded with a somewhat disheartened “Oh”. He crawled back into bed and went back to sleep. Apparently the ball and throngs of crazy people on TV we not nearly worth waking up for.
In the end both boys were awake to do the countdown with Dick and watch the ball drop in NYC. They greeted in the New Year then quickly went to their beds to resume their slumber. I was able to rouse Jen, wish her a Happy New Year and then she too went back to sleep. So, unlike most years where I go through the motions by myself, I at least got everyone to participate if only for a few minutes, and even though the ball was not dropping live in our yard.
