Project Management – at Home!
By DaddyCast on Nov 4, 2009 in Uncategorized
It has been crazy project time around the Love House. Last week my youngest had a Science – habitat project. He was assigned a Blowfish to build and write up a report. The end product of the build is pictured here. The report was a bit funny.
To help him with his research I printed out the Wikipedia entry for Blowfish. He read through it and began to write up his work. When we reviewed it, we found that he had copied, verbatim, the beginning of the fourth page of the printout. It even started mid-sentence. Oddly enough, he could recite it perfectly and even knew what it meant. It was a portion of the writeup around the affects of the Blowfish poison, how it caused suffocation due to paralysis of the diaphragm muscles. He said that part of the information was most interesting so that is why he focused on it. (Before turning it is we added some other general information to lead into that part).
In addition to Operation Blowfish, my oldest has a geometry project in which he has to build a castle. We started working on that last week and I feel like I am at the day job, managing a project and trying to keep the members of the team engaged and involved. We have made good progress on the castle although I am wondering what level of involvement from the parenting side is too much. More on that topic on the next DaddyCast Podcast.
Add to the school projects (and I even forgot to mention the research on Mexico for a presentation) the fact that my wife had a big presentation/workshop to setup for the weekend which took her every night last week to prepare. And, we have the bathroom remodeling project which had me sealing floors and getting things ready for more tiling and grouting. It was a week packed with activities every night that were tightly coordinated to get them done in time for the next thing. Tiring for sure and leaving limited free time.
Thus my long winded excuse for not getting a podcast out last week and ignoring the blog for an entire week. This week looks a little better although not a lot. The castle is nearly done for its due date Friday and the bathroom project has taken a bit of a turn for the worst with the granite company telling me yesterday that our counter top broke. More on that too later. But for now, I remain trying to keep my sanity amidst the hectic project period and look forward to a normal level of hectic which will not come soon enough.
